Many people are unsure what happens during their first appointment with a podiatrist. Knowing what to expect can help you feel more comfortable and prepared. At New Jersey Foot & Ankle Institute, we take pride in offering a welcoming and professional experience for patients throughout Hackettstown, Belvidere, and Succasunna.
Your First Appointment
Your visit begins with a review of your medical history and current concerns. You will be asked about your symptoms, lifestyle, and activity level. The doctor will examine your feet and ankles to look for swelling, redness, or changes in structure.
If needed, X-rays may be taken to evaluate the bones and joints. Additional tests such as ultrasound or MRI are ordered only when necessary.
Common Conditions We Treat
Our podiatrists diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including:
Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
Bunions and hammertoes
Flat feet and high arches
Arthritis and joint problems
Ankle sprains and instability
Fungal nails, warts, and ingrown toenails
Sports injuries and fractures
How to Prepare
Before your appointment, make a list of your symptoms and bring any previous imaging or reports. Wear shoes that are easy to remove so your feet can be examined easily. Bring a list of your current medications and allergies.
After the Visit
Once your evaluation is complete, your podiatrist will explain your diagnosis and outline your treatment plan. Many patients receive at-home exercises, footwear recommendations, or custom orthotic fittings during the first visit. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to track your progress.
At New Jersey Foot & Ankle Institute, we focus on personalized care and patient education. Our goal is to help you understand your condition, recover comfortably, and stay active without pain.
